Amongst the typewriter manufacturing companies, a company famous for its antique looks and functions was ‘Adler’. It began functioning in 1896 and on merger with the Triumph-Werke Company it formulated the TA Triumph-Adler AG Company. It entered the printing industry by producing typewriters for large businesses and homes. The first typewriter produced by Adler was named Empire, which was produced in 1898; but its most popular model was Adler 7. The last Adler model which became a huge success was released in 1995. Many of the models were still in use even after 50 years of their manufacture. The unique feature in Adler typewriters was that its line space and carriage return features were present on the side rather than at the bottom of the carriage.
The current model is Adler Tippa S, which was a rare ultra-compact 1973 model. It had a plastic white body and black keys. It had a black briefcase which enhances its portability and was light weight as compared to its contemporaries.
Adler Tippa’s manual said: ‘It’s easy if you know the know-how!’ Indeed, it is a must-grab for all the type writer collectors and can serve as a perfect fit for decorating your study, office table or studio.
