‘ALAMUT AND LAMASAR’- W. IVANOW BKS 1117

Reference Code: BKS 1117

Description

Offered here is an extremely rare book: W. Ivanow’s ‘Alamut and Lamasar: Two Medieval Ismaili strongholds in Iran- An Archaeological Study’. This treatise was “C-2” in the Ismaili Society Series of books, and was published by the Society in 1960 in Teheran. It consists of a scholarly study of the regions where the founder of the Assassins Hassan Sabbah established his base. Fifteen pages of prefatory matter are followed by 105 pages of text accompanied by 16 plates of photographs of the region (one of them folding), as well as several maps. The book is approximately 7 inches wide, 9.3 inches tall, and 0.5 inches thick.
The book is in fair condition. The dustjacket is missing, and the boards are heavily rubbed and stained, especially on the spine. The binding is solid. Page edges are a bit scuffed. Internally there is foxing and a few stains to some pages. Several pages have major creases. One preface page has a tear. But the book is free of scribbles and is overall a sound reading copy.
