Description

Originally, the Bolex International S.A. was a Swiss manufacturer of movie cameras including 16 mm and Super 16 mm movie cameras. Charles Haccius and Jacques Bogopolsky registered the trade mark ‘Bolex’, the name derived from Bogopolsky in 1925. They introduced the Bolex Auto Cine A camera in 1927 and later, they collaborated with Paillard & Company to formulate the ‘Bolex-Paillard’ which is now known as Bolex International.

Bolex H16 became the most sought after camera and by 1950, they introduced The Bolex Reporter which was a magazine which publicized the cover stories of various celebrities and famous film makers using their Bolex cameras. They introduced the first commercial 3D camera and many of the novice movie makers shot their first films in 1960s to 1970s. The Bolex continued its legacy and introduced the first Digital Bolex D16 camera in 2012.

Bolex-Paillard cameras were used to shoot documentaries, nature films and animators still favored to use them, many popular film schools use them as introductory cameras to teach filming. Although, Bolex International does not produce new camera series any longer, yet they produce Super 16 and 16 mm cameras on custom orders.

This particular camera is the Bolex Paillard D8L, which was an 8 mm three lens turret movie camera which was introduced in 1959. It had a polished duraluminum body covered with genuine Moroccan leather cover and chrome plated metal parts with manual threading and no loop forming. It accommodated 3 standard D mount lenses. The release button lied on the side of the camera which also served as the cable release socket. This particular camera has no apparent damage and is present in excellent condition.

Use this classic along with other vintage cameras to give a unique cinematic look to your décor. The three lens turret makes this camera very eye-catching and innovative even in the modern day.
