BROTHER 100 (TPW 202)
- Condition (In our opinion): 8/10
- Item Code: TPW 202
Brother is a Japanese electronics company which was founded in 1908; as Yasui Sewing Machine Co. Their first US affiliated offices were established in 1954 and the corporate name was changed to Brother Industries Co in 1962. Brother International Corporation became the US subsidiary of the Japan based company and the first Brother typewriter was produced in 1961. Since then, Brother is producing a variety of home, office and business products such as multifunction printers, sewing machines, home computers, knitting machines, machine tools and other domestic appliances.
It is known that Brother had produced approximately 6 million typewriters; after the manufacture of their first electronic typewriter in 1985 at their Wrexham factory, till they stopped their production altogether in 2012. The last typewriter they ever manufactured at their production line has been donated to the science museum in London.
On offer here is the Brother 100 which is a sleek portable white typewriter with black Bakelite keys and a matte finish. It was introduced in 1970s and is a very rare model nowadays. It was a relatively basic model which lacked the ribbon selector, touch control and tabulator; it was easy to carry with the black hard attaché type carrying case. Lighter weight and portability made the Brother 100 a relatively user-friendly typewriter. However, they were later replaced by Brother 200 and 300 which offered greater features than its predecessor.
The Brother 100 on offer has no apparent damage to the body and no marks, except for a slight crack on the carry case. Make it a part of your interior to give it a classic touch which certainly shows a sign of good taste.
