The company ‘Bush’ paved the way for a repertoire of many famous vintage radios which have a great significance till date. It is a British company which was derived from the remnants of ‘Amplion Co.’ in 1932 and was established under the name ‘Bush Radios,’ as a subsidiary of the Gaumont British Picture Corporation. The company started flourishing rapidly and was adopted by the Rank empire in 1940s and launched a number of famous radios and unique television TV 22. Later in 1960s, the company had a merger with Murphy Radio Company and it led to the establishment of a new brand titled ‘Rank Bush Murphy Ltd.’

The classic Bush radio models of 1950s and 1960s are being reproduced and sold nowadays, as well. The company faced a number of ups and downs but manufactures a wide product range including televisions, set top boxes, Blu-ray players, mp3/mp4 players, tablets, turn tables, washing machines, etc. till date. The Bush Radio was endorsed by the very first disc jockey of the United Kingdom Christopher Stone in 1936.

Bush radios were advertised as ‘the symbol of reliable radios,’ because of the full one year warranty which was seldom offered in those days. This particular radio is Bush Radio Type VHF 80, which was first introduced in 1960 and is a 7-valve AC/DC radio. It has a black tuning scale with a golden trim. Unlike the usual table top radios, it has a vertical chassis in which the tuning knobs and buttons are positioned above the speakers, which imparts it a unique and chic look. The chassis is made of Bakelite but some of the VHF 80 models were built with a plastic finish as well. Apart from the LW and MW bands, it also receives 88-108 MHz FM band hence titled ‘VHF 80’.

Apart from minor scratches and scuff marks, the radio is in a good condition with its tuning knobs and buttons intact. It is an ideal choice for imparting a vintage classy look to your interior, whether it’s a lounge, studio, sophisticated brand outlet or the mantel shelf of your own home.
