On offer here is a vintage oil lantern by Dietz lantern named ‘Little Wizard.’ The Dietz history goes back to 1840 when Robert Edwin Dietz started selling oil and camphene lamps and lanterns. The first patent of the company was filed in 1859 for new fuel kerosene oil, flat wick burner. The ‘Dietz and company’ started producing a number of different lanterns after adapting other defunct companies. The company continues the production of the same models, some of which are over a century old. It is known that the lantern division of the company moved to Hong Kong in 1956, shifting in between China and USA, then finally, the production halted completely in 1992. For nearly 150 years, they hold the stature of the ‘Old Reliable’ lanterns around the world.
Interestingly, the present lantern, named the Little Wizard was first introduced in 1926 with the title the ‘Little Giant.’ It featured a 45 hour burning time and was famously used on tugboats. It was available in different colors, such as blue and red with different trims and globes. The main benefits of this lantern included, easy trimming of wick and lighting because of the rising cone and the large tank was beneficial since it avoided any tip over.
The offered lantern is a very old one, considering its condition, it has a rusty metal body, but the glass is intact, with the name and made clearly embossed on it.
It can be an excellent choice for decorating a porch, garden or deck in a classy marine themed outlook.
