‘THE ART OF ETCHING ‘-E. S. LUMSDEN (BKS 1059)
Reference Code: BKS 1059
Presented here is one of the rarest art books in our collection, of which only 150 copies were ever printed. This is the Edition de Luxe of E. S. Lumsden’s ‘The Art of Etching’. In addition to the reproductions of 208 illustrations by various etchers, the book contains four original etchings by the author/artist himself, two of which are signed by him and the other two initialed. This copy is numbered 54, and was published by Seeley, Service & Co. Limited in 1925. It contains 376 pages, and is approximately 6.1 inches wide, 8.2 inches tall, and 1.3 inches thick.
The book is in good condition. The dustjacket has some stains, and is frayed and torn around the edges. The boards exhibit minor fraying to the corners and the occasional spot. The binding is solid. Page edges are roughly cut; gilt top edges are slightly faded. Internally the book evinces some foxing on occasion, but is otherwise free of major defects, with no tears, markings, or creases. The silk ribbon bookmark is present.
