On offer here is the Ensign Ful Vue, which was one of UK’s most popular camera of its time. The Ful Vue was a very innovatively designed box camera.
The history of Ensign Limited began with a company named Claude and Houghton which was established by George Houghton and Antoine Claudet in 1834 base in London. In 1900s, the company became the largest British camera factory and the Ensign roll film brand was launched in 1903. The company underwent several changes in ownership and nomenclatures, finally becoming Ensign Ltd in 1930, after the merger of the Houghtons Ltd. with W. Butcher and Sons.
It was introduced in 1939 and the production continued till 1954 with various changes in its design. It was a relatively simple camera used for photography and possessed the body made of mild steel. It was renowned for its large brilliant reflex viewfinder system. Like all the box cameras, it has a back door with an inner camera part which can be taken out completely to load the film. The body is made of industrial green crackle enamel paint giving it a unique look. The Ensign logo is clearly centered above the viewfinder, with the name of the camera printed on the lens panel.
It is a must-have for camera enthusiasts who love collecting unique looking cameras.
