THE FIRST PUJABIS BY MAJOR MOHAMMAD IBRAHIM QURESHI (BKS 1008)
Reference Code: BKS 1008
‘The First Punjabis- History of the First Punjab Regiment 1759-1956’, by Major Mohammed Ibrahim Qureshi, is a highly detailed and very rare book. The book was published by Gale & Polden Ltd. of Aldershot in 1958, and contains 484 pages. A Prologue by Field-Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck sets the stage for a scholarly work with almost one hundred maps and illustrations. The book is approximately 6.4 inches wide, 9.8 inches tall, and 1.5 inches thick.
The book is in fair condition. Externally there is much wear and rubbing to the boards, with tears to the corners and fading to the gilt titling and decoration. The binding is solid. Internally the book fares better. An unobtrusive ink stain appears in the corner of the front free endpaper, but does not interfere with the endpaper map. There is foxing to the page edges and internal pages, along with the occasional smudge, but it is sparse. There is some underlining with pen and pencil, but this too is infrequent. One of the fold-out maps has small tears, smudges, and perforations to the margins. Overall the book is a good reading copy, with no page tears or significant defects. Some of the fold-out maps protrude slightly from the text block.
