FLORAL SEAL PATTERN CERAMIC JARS (CER 003)
- Set of 2 ceramic jars
- Desirable cream-colored background and printed pattern
- Likely from the early 20th century
This is a set of two ceramic jars with a printed floral seal pattern against a creamy yellow background. The vessels are unmarked except for a series of identification numbers on the bottom; although it makes them difficult to appraise, lack of a pottery mark was common practice in the early days of the pottery industry. In that case, these pieces could be well over a 120 years old.
Based on the color palette, smooth matte finish (possibly vellum) and amount of crazing, these pieces probably originated in the early 20th century. The shape and pattern show strong Grecian and Asiatic design influences, particularly the shape which resembles early 20th century Chinese egg jars that are now highly collectable, but the roses retain their English charm.
These particular vessels might also have been a charitable donation from the potter. One of the vessels has a chipped rim, which adds to the character of the antiques. Aside from that, they are in excellent condition.
Condition: 7/10 & 8/10
