‘LARNED’s HISTORY OF THE WORLD OR SEVENTY CENTURIES OF THE LIFE OF MANKIND’- J. N. LARNED ( BKS 1065)
Reference Code: BKS 1065
On offer here is the 5-volume set ‘Larned’s History of the World or Seventy Centuries of the Life of Mankind’, by J. N. Larned. The title page further describes the work thus: “A survey of history from the earliest known records through all stages of civilization, in all important countries, down to the present time, with an introductory account of prehistoric peoples, and with character sketches of the chief personages of each historic epoch.” The text is accompanied by more than 150 illustrations in colour and black and white. The set was published by World Syndicate Company, Inc. in New York in 1915, and contains a total of 1470 pages. The volumes are approximately 5.8 inches wide, 8.2 inches tall, and 1.5 inches thick.
The set is in good condition. Boards display some scuffing and rubbing, the latter mostly along the edges. Board corners are slightly bent and frayed, and spine ends evince creases and some fraying. Titling to spines is faded. Bindings are solid, though some of the volumes have weak hinges. Page edges have some foxing and browning. Internally the books are in very good condition, with only the occasional foxing, staining, or small corner bends marring the text.
