POLAROID ZEISS IKON (SCA 027)
Item Code: SCA 027
The Polaroid Corporation founded in 1937 became hugely popular in 1948 with its introduction of the “instant” camera, the first cameras which allowed users to generate a finished print rapidly after each exposure. This was a huge departure from earlier cameras in which the film needed to be developed for a few days to generate a print. Even today, instant cameras continue to be the company’s flagship product line.
This Polaroid camera is part of the Polaroid 100-450 series manufactured between 1963 and 1967, which includes a range of cameras starting with the Automatic 100 and finishing at the Automatic 450, and includes a common set of features with all models in this line, namely the folding bellows, automatic exposure and the 100-series Packfilm. This series was one of the first to incorporate the rangefinder designed by German company Zeiss Ikon which was formed in 1926 as a subsidiary of the optical company Carl Zeiss established in 1853. Carl Zeiss supplied camera lenses to the major camera manufacturers of the day, becoming the leading camera and lens manufacturer in the world. To this day, while Zeiss Ikon has folded, Carl Zeiss retains its position as the world’s leading lens manufacturer, the name being synonymous with unmatched clarity and precision. This particular camera is in good condition, and is fully functional with an all-metal body and the original tripod stand mount (tripod stand not included).
