REGAL WARE VASE (CER 006)
Item Code: CER 006
This undated earthenware vase is part of the Regal Ware line manufactured by A G Richardson & Co Ltd, established in 1915 by Albert G. Richardson in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. The town of Tunstall was, and still is, part of the “Staffordshire Potteries”, England’s largest centre of ceramic production since the early 17th century. A G Richardson & Co Ltd gradually became famous for its high quality tableware, breakfast, coffee, morning and dessert sets, and other decoration pieces. By the time the company was acquired by fine china, porcelain, and luxury accessories manufacturer Wedgwood in 1974, it had become synonymous with an upper-class lifestyle. Not long after this acquisition, Wedgwood decided to discontinue operation.
This particular piece is cream-coloured with a gold rim and hints of peach/apricot around the neck and base, and is decorated using a combination of swags and pendants surrounding hand-coloured roses. The floral display is a formal arrangement of an ornamental fringe enclosing blue, pink and purple flowers. The designer is unknown, since it does not bear a potter’s mark. The vase is in good clean condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor discoloration and crazing is present.
