In 1920, Paul Franke and Reinhold Heidecke established ‘Rollei’ in Braunschweig (Germany). It began as an optics and precision mechanic workshop. Heidecke proposed a new type of roll film camera ‘Rolleiflex’ which was a twin lens camera and Franke financed its marketing. The success of the camera helped recognize the company as precision manufacturer. It was originally name Werkstatt für Feinmechanik und Optik, Franke and Heidecke; which was renamed several times before finally becoming Rollei Fototechnic GmbH and Co in 1981. The company produced the famous Rolleiflex and Rolleicord series, during its later years Rollei started producing specialty films for the photography.
There were several transitions involved in the ownership of the company and in 2015, the production of cameras and its accessories came to halt eventually. A subdivision of the company named RCP Technik Verwaltungs GmbH, however, have continued to produce digital cameras and accessories under the label of ‘Rollei’ in Europe.
On offer here is the Rollei movie camera SL82, which was produced from the year 1969 to 1973. It was a relatively simple, inexpensive camera which was suitable for home and amateur movie making. It has a black plastic body with a hand grip. It had an adjustable focus and auto exposure. The current camera is present in a very good condition. The paint on the front of the lens is slightly peeled off. The rest of the camera has no scratch and the lens is also intact. It is indeed a good item for your vintage movie collection.
