England’s Royal Doulton was famous for the production of tableware and collectibles. Originating in the first half of the 19th century, the company underwent various changes. Initially, the Doulton and Co. focused on industrial materials. Later, with the passage of time, the focus shifted to producing quality ceramics for homes.
Queen Victoria knighted Henry Doulton and later King Edward II bestowed upon Doulton and Co. ‘The Royal Warrant.’ Henceforth, it came to be known as ‘Royal Doulton,’ and continued producing both industrial goods such as water purifiers as well as household ceramics and collectibles such as figurines and character jars.
This Royal Doulton serving plate is part of the art noveau design based on the famous ‘Old Leeds Spray’ pattern. This form of art evolved in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when artisans gained inspiration from natural forms and angular contours.
It is an elegant round, multisided, eared, ceramic cake or bread & butter plate with colourful multi-floral patterns and green trim with a cream background. A beautiful piece of art with a spray pattern of swirling ribbons and floral bouquets imparts a refreshing look to the viewer.
Available in very good condition with only minute crazing signs, this lovely antique ceramic piece will impart a delicate vintage look to your kitchen, living room or dining room.
