ROYAL HH TYPEWRITER (TPW257)
- Made in USA
- Condition (In our opinion): 6/10
- Item Code: 257
The Royal Typewriters have a prominent position amongst the typewriter producing companies. The company was established in 1904 by Edward Hess and Lewis Myers in New York, but the manufacturing of typewriters began two years later. The company rose to sudden fame with its introduction to desktop typewriters in 1926 and later, it established the portable line of typewriters.
During the World War II, the production of typewriters was halted and was replaced by ammunition products. However, in the post-war era, it re-established its stature and expanded to Europe, as well, having mergers with the famous names such as Volkswagen and Olivetti. The company still survives as a privately owned property, Royal Consumer Information Products, Inc., however, it does not produce typewriters any longer.
Presenting here today is an antique typewriter, the Royal HH which was a hinged top and touch control typewriter, first introduced in 1954. It was introduced with a number of different color options including charcoal gray, Nile green, Horizon Blue, etc. It came with standard 43 key keyboard. The condition of the current typewriter is pretty much worn out, with the paint chipped off at a number of places and some inner parts a bit rusty, but the green bakelite keys are just fine, with no damage to the keys. Despite the wear and tear, it’s a typewriter that was made to last.
