Sankyo Camera Company was established in 1946 as an individual enterprise named Sankyo Seiki Manufacturing. In 1950s, it was successful enough to establish a mass musical movement in Japan. The Sankyo Corporation commenced the production of 8 mm movie cameras after the establishment of the New York representative office. The Nidec Sankyo Corporation became a major shareholder of the Sankyo Seiki Company in 2003 and since then, it has produced a vast majority of products including disc music boxes, LCD panel holding robots, levitation motors, etc.
The Sankyo Super CME-440 Hi Focus movie camera was a zoom-reflex super 8 cartridge high focus movie camera. It was produced from 1971 to 1973. It had a good finishing with silver die cast enamel body and black leatherette panels; this look was characteristic of the CME cameras. It had a large lens barrel and a comfortable to use closeable handgrip. This particular CME-440 is present in exceptional condition and comes with a leather bag. The body is scratch less and has no major impairment. It is a great catch for a keen collector of vintage movie cameras.
