‘THE SECOND WORLD WAR ‘- WINSTON CHRCHILL ( BKS 1042)
Reference Code: BKS 1042
In our collection are numerous books related to Winston Churchill and the Second World War. Amongst them is this set of six volumes penned by Churchill himself. Published during 1948 to 1954 by Cassell & Co. Ltd., Churchill’s narrative had the advantage of being written by a major participant in the War with access to materials unobtainable to the usual historian, and the volumes contain dozens of maps, numerous appendices containing reproductions of documents, facsimiles of letters, and other primary source material. Each volume is approximately 5.8 inches wide, 8.5 inches tall, and 1-2 inches thick. Pagination is as follows:
Volume I- The Gathering Storm: xv+640
Volume II- Their Finest Hour: xvii+684
Volume III- The Grand Alliance: xviii+818
Volume IV- The Hinge of Fate: xviii+917
Volume V- Closing the Ring: x+673
Volume VI- Triumph and Tragedy: ix+716
The set is in good condition. Boards have some minor scuff marks and bends to the corners, as well as some minor fraying to the spine ends. Bindings are solid. Volume II has some bends and minor tears to the index pages, and some mild water stains to the page edges, as does Volume IV. Volume III has a fold-out map protruding slightly from the text block. Volume V has a few page bends. But overall the volumes are clean internally and free of major defects.
