Veb Stern-Radio Sonneberg was a German enterprise belonging to RFT association, which founded in 1952 and operated till 1991. It was a part of the Kombinat; a term commonly used in the Socialist countries to describe a merger of closely cooperating businesses leading to the formation of a large industrial enterprise. In 1945, the company’s electric supply division Koppelsdorf (EWC) was established under Russian leadership and started producing military radio technology products. After dissolution of the Soviet management, in 1952 EWC was renamed as Veb Stern-Radio Sonnenberg. It manufactured pocket transistor radios, and used the trademark Sonra. However, in 1991 one of the biggest radio manufacturing company ended due to bankruptcy.
The Veb Stern Super 5080C was a post-World War II broadcast receiver which was introduced in 1963. It was table-top model with a wooden case and broadcasted more than two wave bands with a permanent dynamic moving coil speaker. This particular radio has chipped wood on the front and side of the casing probably owing to its age and use. The back of the radio is original with its name, made and model, but it is slightly damaged. The knobs and buttons are in a fine state. It is rare find which is worth having for a radio collector.
