Description

‘The quality goes in before the name goes on,’ was the slogan of the renowned Zenith Electronics LLC; an American consumer electronics brand which was founded in 1919 by Ralph H.G. Matthews and Karl Hassel. They initiated their work by producing receivers for radio amateurs primarily. The company rose to a sudden height of fame when Eugene F. McDonald Jr. became a partner in the company in 1920. His managerial expertise and sales technique proved to bring forth the Zenith name to its time honored stature. The company is now owned by the famous South Korean Company LG.

It manufactured televisions, radios and other electronics, but mainly well-known for developing the High-Definition Television, subscription television, space phone, porthole television and the modern remote control.

The Trans-Oceanic was one of the most successful series of portable radios produced from 1942 to 1981 by the Zenith Radios. They were short-wave receivers well-known for their sturdy body, high quality performance and manufacturing. On offer here is the Trans-oceanic Royal 3000 which was produced in 1962 and its production continued till 1968. It was a portable germanium-transistor radio receiver with an ability to receive +12 V via external AC adaptor supply. In this model, FM broadcasting was introduced, eliminating the 13 meter band in its predecessor 1000 D.  It consisted of 9-bands, 10 transistors and the heterodyne design provided FM, LW, MW and six SW bands.

It had a black leatherette covered front panel, with matte silver head, side panels and tuner dials. The main features included rotating band selector drum, snap up carrying handle which housed an aerial, also featuring the basic bands which could receive marine, weather, navigation reports and also facilitated ship to ship and ship to shore transmission.

The present radio is present in an overall good physical condition, with only a few markings to the panel owing to its age. It was a famous radio back in its day, it was shown in the movie Thirteen days. Due to its unique look and extraordinary features, Royal 3000 is a must-have for radio enthusiasts and its stylish look can give your décor an aura of antiquity.
